Linking from a well established site is a popular way for website owners to get traffic to their website as well as improve their sites ranking in the eyes of search engines like Google.com. How does one get these links to point to your site? There are few ways to do this, some of which I know are as follows.
- Link exchange with sites of a similar nature.
- Getting one-way link backs by paying for them.
- Submissions to directories
- Writing articles related to your business, embedding links in them and then submitting the articles to Article directories where they are sources by numerous sites
- Submitting your press release to various PR sites which again are sourced by many sites.
- Promoting your website on Social networking sites.

There are all kinds of directories. Some offer paid listings, some reciprocal listing and the others free.
Many of them combine the above to offer placements based on the above choices. However there is a huge list of directories that offer submissions for FREE. And I find this the most convenient way of gain link backs to your website.....and all for free.
I am sure one day; Google.com will stop considering link backs from these sites as any value. Well till then we could always use this method of SEO.
